About HealthMaps
HealthMaps exists because working out where to start with mental health support shouldn't be this hard.
Why this site exists
Most people who decide to get mental health support hit the same two walls. They don't know what to do first — see a GP? Call a psychologist directly? What's a Mental Health Care Plan? — and once they're moving, they struggle to find the right practitioner without weeks of phone calls and guesswork.
HealthMaps explains the pathway step by step, in plain language: what each option costs, what Medicare covers, and what to actually say when you book. The kind of practical knowledge that people who've been through the system wish they'd had at the start.
What we stand for
- Free, for everyone
- All information on this site is free to access. There are no paywalls and no premium tiers.
- Independent and neutral
- No practitioner, clinic or service pays to appear here or to be presented favourably. We have no commercial relationships that influence what we say.
- Accurate and current
- We aim for the accuracy you'd expect from a government health service, in language you'd hear from a friend. Costs and Medicare details are reviewed periodically, and we say so when figures are estimates.
- Consumer-first
- This site is built around what people navigating the system told us they needed — not around what's easiest to publish.
